Background:
- A leading Sovereign Wealth Fund based in the Middle East approached us in relation to a complex search for an international funds counsel to be based at its headquarters in the Middle East.
- The client was looking to hire a senior funds counsel who was currently based in New York, London, Hong Kong or Singapore.
Strategy:
- We produced a detailed market for senior funds lawyers based in New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore including possible candidates both from law firms and financial institutions.
- The market map was completed in 2 weeks and included over 100 potential candidates across the four locations. The client asked us to approach 30 preferred candidates on the list and this resulted in a shortlist of 5 candidates.
Challenges:
- We came across multiple challenges in this search as the skillset required for the role was very specific at a time when funds lawyers were in high demand.
- The international scale of the search was also a challenge and required constant attention to every detail, including the relocation complexities.
Outcome:
- After several meetings and travel to the region, we successfully completed the search resulting in placing a New York based lawyer who moved with his entire family to the Middle East. The successful candidate had 10 years’ experience at a leading firm in New York, a strong international background as well as being Ivy League educated.
- After completing this search, the same client has continued to retain us for further searches.
